Korean Trends – Straight Eyebrows

Korean Trends – Straight Eyebrows

In the Americas (and other western countries) sharp, arched and well defined eyebrows are the epitome of beauty! And for the longest time, I too strived to achieve this look – I spent a (not so) small fortune on stencils and various eyebrow products to acquire that look and I was super proud of the fact that I had naturally high arches! (Yay!)

Then I came to Korea and quickly realized that straight eyebrows were were considered to be the personification of style and beauty! Still, I stood my ground and decided I would stick to my natural shape all whilst listening to comments on how they make me look like an overseas-born Korean (I am), that they were seagull shaped (how adorable) and what not. But what finally convinced me was the knowledge that simply changing my eyebrows could alter my ambience! The most famous example of this is Hyoyeon from Asia’s most popular girl group Girl’s Generation.

Straight brows provide a softer and more youthful look so I bought the necessary tools, went home and got to work!

How to:

I know the prospect of altering your own eyebrows is a little daunting -after all the horrors if it all goes wrong! – but fret not, the entire procedure is relatively simple!

Step 1: Get your kit together:

To achieve the Korean straight eyebrows you’ll need the following:

  • Tweezers
  • Eyebrow razor
  • Eyebrow spoolie
  • Eyebrow pencil and mascara

Step 2: Groom and shape

  • Use your spoolie to tidy up your brows.
  • Then take your razor and align it to be parallel with your eye and gently move it back and forth to remove any unwanted hairs.

  • This step basically works to remove the hairs above line 1 and reduce the arch of your brows.
  • Next, should you find that the ends of your brows extend below the base, remove a little off the tip; anything below line 2 should be removed. If not, skip this step.
  • Use your tweezers to pluck out any stray hairs.

Quick tip: If you find this step a little challenging, take your eyebrow pencil and draw two lines as shown below. This should provide you with a rough guideline of what to and what not to remove.

Step 3: Fill

Hard parts over! All that’s left to do is fill in your brows.

  • Take your eyebrow pencil and with a soft hand fill in your brows as shown above.
  • Next, use eyebrow mascara to hold the hairs in place.
